Valentine’s Day 2012

This year, we did some fun things for Valentine’s Day.

These are the cookies that I made for my TMOMs group. I thought that they turned out so cute! I colored a tiny bit of frosting for each cookie. J

My sweet little buddy woke up screaming while I was decorating the cookies. I brought him into the kitchen because I wanted to frost the cookies before the frosting dried out. He fell asleep this way – so cute.

We had our usual Friday night dinner at Chick-Fil-A. Daniel opened his Valentine from MawMaw and PawPaw. He received a $1 bill. He yelled, “Little mousling stickers!” when he opened his stickers. We all thought it was so cute.

Hannah liked opening her Valentine and her $1 bill as well!

We went shopping on Valentine’s Day, and Daniel and Hannah were able to spend their $1′s (with a little supplement from Mommy.)

Daniel was able to find a green Hot Wheels!

Hannah found a teeny, tiny blue My Little Pony!

David knew what he wanted – an oreo shake!

Rainbow Valentine cookies for MawMaw’s homeroom class.

We visited Daddy at work for lunch on V-Day. Hannah wore her special outfit that Grandma Faith made for her.

While I didn’t plan a special menu for dinner, I did set the table with candles and quiet music, as well as our heart napkins that have our names embroidered on them. We were excited to welcome Daddy home to our special dinner! Daniel wanted to toast with the apple cider, so we got out the special glasses.

Happy Birthday, Hannah!

The past year has flown by so quickly! I have so much to share, but for now, I’ll post about what we did today to celebrate Hannah’s birthday. Click "read more" to continue.

We woke up and played on the bed for a while.

[Daniel got into his Halloween candy and ate a lollipop for breakfast. Not my first choice, but you have to live every once in a while. :) ]

Daniel wanted to "hold" Hannah. Well….he’s learning to be gentle.

Mom had the day off of work for some dental work, so Dad and Mom met us at Chik-Fil-A for lunch. Yummy!

We then took Chik-Fil-A to Daddy at work. We sat and played on the grass while he ate his lunch. (sorry, no picture)

After naps, Hannah received a few phone calls to wish her a Happy Birthday!

We had a little photo shoot on the couch after dinner. This isn’t the best quality of a photo, but it captures how much fun we have around here! Daniel’s look of pure joy is so contagious in this picture.

(Notice the keys that are on Daniel’s pants. He wants to be just like Daddy, so he has a set of keys with a clip that he attaches to his pants quite often.)

Every time we sang "Happy Birthday" today, Daniel yelled, "CAKE!" at the top of his voice. He apparently knows that these two go together. So, I let them have cake for dessert. (I was excited to find rainbow chip cake and frosting again – yummy!) We even put a candle in his cake because he wanted "Fire, please". He is so adorable!

Hannah knows what to do with the good stuff.

All-in-all, it was a great day. I can’t believe that Hannah has been a part of our lives for an entire year. Sometimes it feels like she just got here, and at other times, it feels like she has always been here. We love her so much and find so much joy in her. I especially like that she cuddles me quite often. She’s been walking for quite some time, says "Bye-bye", "Night-night", "Dada", "Mama" and more. I will try to write some more updates soon, but I at least wanted to get this one post …

Our Garden Part #1

This spring, James planted a garden. He and Daniel have taken very good care of it, and we’re starting to be able to eat the "fruits" of their labor. ;-) He planted: corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin, green beans, peas, carrots, and spinach. I’ve taken some progress shots along the way. Click "read more" to see them.

Daniel is 21, 22, 23 Months Old!

This is my final "months" update for Daniel as he turns 2 next month! I can’t believe how fast he is growing up. Click "read more" to find out what he’s been up to lately.

Daniel is a bundle of energy. He is always on the go, and he runs almost everywhere. He gets so excited about the littlest things — I love it!

He is very much of a people-person. He is always communicating with and making contact with people. He wakes up asking for "Daddy? Mommy? Nana? (Hannah)" When we go on walks, he will often wave to the people in cars and yell, "Hi!" as we cross the street. Sometimes when we are in the garden, he stands at our fence, pokes his head out through the hole, waves, and yells, "Hi!" to all the cars that pass by.

He loves to look after Hannah and make sure that she is taken care of. Throughout the day, he will share toys with her, try to share food with her, help us feed her, make her giggle, give her cuddles, try to pick her up, ask one of us to hold her ("Mommy, hold you, Nana?"), etc.

Daniel is very verbal. He has a huge vocabulary, and he uses it to help us understand what he wants. He still loves to learn new signs as well, but I’ve slacked off on teaching him, so he’s mainly learning new verbal words at this point. He is making three- and four-word sentences now.

He likes to count, and often I hear him saying, "Ready, 1, 2, go!" (He skips most of the numbers but likes 1 and 2 a lot.)

He loves to say "purple" for most any color.

He loves to open and shut cabinets, water bottles, boxes…anything that will open and shut.

He is fascinated with the potty. He likes to sit on the potty, flush, and wash hands after that. He still hasn’t produced anything yet, but at least he’s not scared of the potty.

He makes boy noises all the time, gets dirty almost every day, loves bugs and dirt, and loves to be outside. He has an insatiable appetite for being outside. Usually, Daddy will take Daniel outside in the evening after work. They will work in the garden or just play for a while.

He loves to play with balls. He kicks them, throws them, rolls them, and catches them (thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for teaching him how to catch a ball).

Daniel recognizes where we are in the car oftentimes. He will say "Bapa!" if we arrive at Grandpa and Grandma’s house, or "Bella" if we arrive at Isabella’s house. He will yell "Play!" if we arrive at Chik-Fil-A because he loves to play in their play place.

Other than the three of us, some of Daniel’s favorite people are: "Unka" Uncle Joel; "Auntie" Auntie Steph; "Bapa" Grandpa Gregg; "Mom-mom" Grandma Vicky; "Tentie" Kenzie; and "Bella" Isabella.

Here are some fun pictures of Daniel from the past few months:

Auntie Steph came for a visit in May!

Daniel helped us wash the cars one evening.

Come on! Let’s go!

"Bye!" (waving at cars in the parking lot after church on Mother’s Day)

I love to work in the yard with Daddy!

I love my Bapa!

I love Bella, too!

Daniel gets so excited to go to sleep now that we let him use a pillow …

9 Wonderful Years!

We celebrated our ninth anniversary last week. My parents had given us a gift card to Chik-Fil-A, so we had a delicious dinner. We didn’t plan very well, so the kids went with us, but it was a nice time with the family. We even splurged and had a peach milkshake – delicious!

I am so thankful to have been married to the most wonderful man for these past nine years. We have been through a lot (college graduations, first professional jobs, first nice cars, mission trips overseas, starting a business, having children, moving into a house, and so much more!), and I wouldn’t want to have gone through it with anybody else.

Click "read more" to see a few additional pictures of the night.
